Kia posted a series of enigmatic teasers for its forthcoming “2022 Kia EV6” crossover on Monday. The model, which is expected to hit dealerships later this year, will be the first from the Korean manufacturer to be built on the dedicated Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).
The EV6 will follow the Ioniq 5, which shares the same platform, in extending the concept of “crossover,” based on these first few photos. With a tapering, coupe-like roofline and wide rear hips, it’s a very low-slung shape. Engineers will drive the wheels right to the edge of the shape thanks to the battery-electric base, which should improve stability and interior space.
New 2022 Kia EV6
In Kia EV6, the headlights are small, with a segmented LED “eyeliner” that extends well past the main unit. Between the lights, a blacked-out screen forces a departure from the brand’s new Tiger Grille styling. The redesigned Kia logo is prominently featured on the clamshell hood.
The Kia EV6’s tail, on the other hand, has piqued our curiosity. For a unique look, a full-width taillight merges with a ducktail spoiler. The light is made up of hundreds of segmented LED hash marks, giving the K5 sedan a distinctive look at night. The rear lights’ outer corners extend all the way down the side of the EV6 and up to the rear wheel arches. Two boomerang-shaped sequential turn signals curl down into the middle of the tailgate directly under them.
The EV6’s technical specifications are yet to be announced by Kia. The recently revealed Ioniq 5 could, however, disclose a lot of information.
Later this month, the 2022 Kia EV6 will make its debut. According to Kia, it’ll be available in Kia dealerships throughout North America this fall.
